After multiple de-commits this week, some Georgia football fans are in a panic about the 2022 recruiting class.
Every year around this time, it happens. Georgia football has a few recruits de-commit, and some, not all, but a good portion of the fans begin to worry. They run to their social media accounts, forums, or discords to vent their frustration with Georgia’s staff for allowing another recruit to escape. However, there is plenty of reason to be optimistic about this recruiting cycle. So, come back in off the ledge, sit down, and let’s discuss it.
First off, it is just June. Georgia football’s coaches haven’t even begun to lean on recruits yet. They are still in their feeling out stage. There is a science to this process. They have offered around 200 something athletes, and they will only be taking about 12 percent of them. So trust the process and let this all work itself out. Besides, the results have consistently shown that Kirby Smart knows what he is doing.
Another thing to remember is all of these kids committed while they couldn’t take any visits. Now that they can get on campus, they want to go check out other schools. So don’t be surprised if you see a few more de-commits. However, you also may see a commit or two that may surprise you. Again, it is very early in this process, and there is nothing to be worried about. Smart has shown time and time again that he is one of the best closers in the business.
Don’t be shocked if Smart and company actually bring in even bigger fish than those that have de-committed. The savvy recruiter always seems to finish better than he starts, and this year should be no different. Have faith and calm down.
