Georgia Football safety Malaki Starks making a name for himself

Malaki Starks has started just three games for Georgia football but he is already making a name for himself.

Georgia football true freshman Malaki Starks has been flashing the skills that made him a 5-star recruit. He was the number 19 rated recruit in the 2022 recruiting cycle according to 247 Sports. He is from Jefferson, Georgia, and stands 6-1 and 205 pounds.

In just his first three games for Georgia football, he has amassed 11 tackles (number two on the team) and two interceptions (number one on the team). He has played all over the defense from safety to cornerback and even four snaps on the defensive line.

Starks is clearly a special player and a huge pickup on the recruiting trail for head coach Kirby Smart. Starks is the kind of player that can not only help Georgia’s defense get stops but also make plays on the ball himself. As he has already done twice in his young career.

Georgia football’s young safety is on pace to better Dominick Sanders’ six interceptions in 2015. If Starks was able to do this it would be the most interceptions by a defender since Coach Smart took over the program. With that accomplishment his name would be among players like Sanders, Richard LeCounte, Eric Stokes, and Derion Kendrick. The latter three all picked off four passes in a single season.

No matter how many interceptions Starks ends up with in his freshman season one thing is clear, quarterbacks need to stop testing the kid. Well, that is unless they don’t mind their passes being returned the other way. If that is the case, keeping targeting Starks, it will only help Georgia football in the end.

As Larry Munson famously said, “Oh my Gawd, a freshman.” Starks will only continue to get better with more reps and experience. That should terrify opposing quarterbacks and excite Georgia football fans.
